Will-This was so hilarious I laughed so hard I cried. Yet how pathetic that they can't be more competent!! Ugh-what a frustration. But it made for a very funny piece. You need to publish this one.

Thanks Fitz, & I love the Gandhi quote. It fits very well with believe what you want. I agree with you on the Great Depression influence. Hope y'all are doing well in Philly.

hang in there, brother. as always, your thougths are solid...too much silliness in the world, tough to watch the news anymore. I really like this quote -

“A man is but the product of his thoughts. What he thinks, he becomes.” - Mahatma Gandhi

my sense is that too many people are personally dissatisfied and in turn, inflict their agendas at any cost. my parents were raised in the great depression, think their "be happy with what you have" sensibility rubbed off on me.

its not 4 in the morning, but do have a crown nearby....keep writing, will! much peace.

Will, I just discovered your blog. Have only read the first entry, but it touched me, more now than it would have in 2004, as I am now a grandparent, and hope Alice's kids will love me now, and remember me later. Just got home from taking them to Ice Age 4, movies may be our best bond! I have so many wonderful memories of Don and Marjorie...they were such good friends to Louis and Ellen, Dick's parents, and were terrific people.

wowza. power card? "the power of purple"? really, medical supply manufacturers?! i still have my port and have actually had one removed and replaced all after transplant. they say they want them out unless you're a CFer with crappy veins. i feel like the last half of that is redundant -- we all seem to make do with less than stellar inner wiring these days. does it stick out of your neck, then?

i'm kinda over the rejection/infection combo punch right now. it's not a fun pair to have invading your lungs. if you find yourself sleepless and wanting to rant, you know your gal.

I never knew purple was powerful. A PICC line doesn't sound like fun, but a Hohn catheter sounds less so. Hang in there my friend.

Was reading somewhere, I guess it was the New Yorker, about the marketing of Olympic athletes, and how some athletes make more money due to sponsorships because their sports are just more popular. (http://nyr.kr/QFhuwZ) The article was describing the rivalry between Phelps and Lochte, since Phelps has just been soooo dominant. Apparently, even Lochte's win over Phelps was undercut by the news that a Chinese woman had actually swum that same length FASTER than Lochte. So of course, that swimmer, Ye Shiwen, was tested for doping. And the New Yorker article quoted a Chinese reporter trying to explain Chinese indignation over such allegations. "It's because the US has Phelps, and China has soooo many people, so why can't they have just one like him?" :)))

I would say the opposite. Today, word processing makes writing too easy. The Internet makes writing too accessible. One used to have to take time to sort out thoughts, to choose words carefully before committing them to unforgiving ink. Back then, setting print was laborious and reserved for the best writing. Now, anyone can go online and publish a book or post a blog, and many do who shouldn't. All that bad writing dulls our senses and lowers our standards, and we forget what good writing is. Until Dickens or Hemingway or Melville remind us.
